Colour: A deep ruby red core and a bright crimson hue.
Aroma: Vibrant ripe berried fruits of red and a black cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, with dark chocolate, whole black pepper and sweet and savoury spice dominate the senses.
Palate: Generous and full, vibrant and fresh, the ripe red and black fruit flavours of cherry, plum and raspberry, partnered with soft acidity and velvety chewy tannins hold the rich mid palate offering length, persistence and brightness
The Springer was sourced from the southern Hares Chase Marananga vineyard
and selected local Barossa Valley growers from Shiraz harvested at optimal ripeness. Processed at our Hare's Chase Winery in small open top fermenters with twice daily pumpovers to maximise extraction of colour, flavour and tannin. At the completion of
fermentation, the wine was pressed with free-run and pressings combined and matured for 18 months in 80% seasoned French and American oak hogsheads, with the balance matured in tank to retain freshness and brightness.
ACCOLADES AND AWARDS
Wine Orbit – Sam Kim
95pts
This is upfront and richly expressed on the nose with blackberry, violet, clove, cedar and dark cocoa aromas, followed by a beautifully weighted palate offering plump mouthfeel combined with well-balanced tannins, finishing delectable and lingering. At its best: now to 2036. Published Jan 2024
Wine Pilot – Ken Gargett
95pts
Basket pressing of the grapes here, from estate vineyards, the colour is an opaque maroon. A great vintage with a wine from the heart of the Barossa. Poised, concentrated, tight, coiled and powerful. The flavours weave through dark chocolate, coffee beans, mocha, blackberries and beefstock notes. Seamless, intense, balanced and focused, there is very good length. Rich and ripe. Love it. Ten years. Published Aug 2024
The Wine Front – Campbell Mattinson
92pts
This is a bold. well-weighted shiraz with pure, sweet, attractive blackcurrant flavour pouring generously through the palate. This fruit comes with violet and musky, vanillin, cedarwood oak flavours attached, with minty, clovey characters then rounding it out. It has good heft and good texture, and it keeps the fruit going all the way through the finish. Published July 2024
Wine Companion – Dave Brookes
91pts
A multi-subregional assemblage of shiraz that sits mid-crimson in the glass with aromas of macerated blood plums, blueberry, boysenberry and cherry clafoutis. Hints of baking spices, jasmine, dried citrus rind, licorice, mocha, creamy oak and earth. There's a nice plush push of spicy fruit across the palate, powdery tannins and cream-dabbed plum and blueberry fruit on the exit. Published Oct 2023
Wine Pilot – Jeni Port
90pts
Plenty to get your teeth stuck into both literally and figuratively. This is a good, solid Barossa Shiraz from a top year, chock full in so much flavour you could almost carve it (well, almost). Layer upon layer of fruit – blackberry, black cherry – and spice – aniseed, clove, cinnamon – and dark chocolate, turned earth, and what’s more, it is nicely weighted and well-proportioned throughout. Oak brings a toasted cedary quality to the wine, which can’t be ignored, but which works in well with the overall generosity of flavour. Just add lamb and you will be on a real winner of a food-wine match. Published Aug 2024
