St. MelangelI (pronounced "Melangeth") is the patron saint of hares. A 7th century Celtic princess who fled an unwanted marriage, she was provided sanctuary in a remote Welsh valley, creating a place of peace and sanctity for people and animals in need. Her way of life was such that wild hares and other animals surrounded her, as if tamed.
St. MelangelI Cabernet Sauvignon captures the characteristics of this majestic variety - cassis, blackberry, violets, graphite and cedar - interwoven with the distinctive personality of this ancient Barossa Valley landscape, creatively pushing new boundaries in an increasingly sustainable way.
Colour: Deep dark ruby
Aroma: Cassis, blackberry, dark cherry, menthol, choc mint, vinous, violet and earthy notes.
Palate: Bold black and blue juicy core of fresh fruits with a fine soft tannin profile
which draws the wine evenly and seamlessly along the palate to finish long and persistent.
Enjoy with gourmet burgers, grilled meats and firm cheese.

Wine Orbit – Sam Kim

Sweetly fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows blackcurrant, game, warm spice, thyme, and cedar characters. The splendidly weighted palate delivers succulent fruit intensity and supple texture, beautifully framed by layers of polished tannins. Structured and robust with a lengthy, complex finish. At its best: now to 2036.

Apparently, Melangell was a 7th century Celtic princess who was forced into an unwanted marriage. Unhappy with this, she fled and lived in a remote valley where she became the patron saint of hares (should that be matron saint of hares? Perhaps better we do not split hairs discussing it). She is honoured with this fine Cabernet.
The colour is a deep maroon, while the nose offers notes of black fruits, leather, tobacco leaves, dried herbs, smoked meats, graphite and coffee grinds. Quite a savoury style. A firm structure here, but there is a supple and rather attractive texture, with fine acidity and sleek tannins. The wine has really good length and exhibits concentration throughout. A ten year proposition.
