[2002 SHIRAZ]
Colour
Deep plum red.
Nose
Smoked meats and dark chocolate are the main characters of the bouquet. Background aromas of vanilla, blackberry and aniseed assist with the considerable complexity this wine exhibits.
Palate
The flavour impact is high, the fruit has been harvested at perfect maturity and appears slippery through the middle palate. The tannins are firm but are balanced with the fruit weight. The long finish is smoky with cocoa and plums persisting.
General
The 2002 vintage in the Barossa was the coolest on record. The fruit flavours tended to not be of the typical ripe style but were more restrained and powerful. This wine is one for the long haul, watch it develop as it expresses itself more fully over the years.
Robert Parker (Wine Advocate)
"Produced from vines cropped at 1.8 tons of fruit per acre, it exhibits a dense purple colour in addition to a big peppery, blackcurrant and berry-scented nose with notions of white flowers and liquorice in the background. Deep & chewy with low acidity and medium to full body. This impressive 2002 will drink well for a decade." 92 Points.
